Using proper braiding techniques

One thing is to produce stunning braids; another is to produce those same good looking braids using the right techniques:
-You do not want braids that are attached too tightly resulting in undue pressure on your scalp.
-Too much extension does not make it better. The amount of extension must be in keeping with the portion of hair it is attached to. After all a 1-pound ball hanging from a string does not produce the same amount of stress as a 10-pound ball attached to the same thread. Striking the proper extension to hair ratio is key.

The basics

Your hair needs moisture as your body needs to water to stay healthy.
Without water your body becomes dehydrated, equally so without moisture your hair becomes dry making it susceptible to breaking, thinning, scratching and many more unpleasant hair problems.
-Keep your hair moisturized by applying liberally a leave-in conditioner every three days or so.

-Wash and condition your hair once every two weeks following the manufacturer’s instructions on the products you use; during the process focus on the roots of your hair and scalp. And remember to go gentle on your hair.

Once washed you have the option of letting the hair dry by air in which you must make sure to remove all excess water or blow it dry with cool air.
By keeping your hair clean you will insure that you keep at bay scratching which is an enemy to smooth and lasting braids.
Note some styles may need less frequent or no washing at all. Please check with your braider for more information.

-When you see a lot of new growth around the hair line or braids hanging by a thread, it may be time for a touch-up. Doing so will refresh the look of your braids as well as push your braids to their maximum “shelf-life”. You should not allow braids hanging loosely as this may lead to breaking and damages.

Bedtime maintenance

Make sure you tie your hair with a silk, satin or nylon scarf before resting your head on the pillow case. Never use cotton scarves or materials which suck the precious moisture out of your hair. Preferably slip on a silk or satin pillowcase onto your pillow should your scarf fail you during your sleep.

Braids removal

There is no silver bullet to removing your braids quickly. If it took those hours to fix them right; obviously it will take some time to get them out.
Just remember that taking your braids out improperly will cause damages to your hair. If you going to do it yourself select the appropriate tools: a fine comb, a needle, a paper clip, etc.  Determine where your real hair meets with the extensions and cut 1inch or more above that point. A good rule of thumb in determining that junction is to divide your hair into sections and undo the entire length of a few braids out of each section and use the untied hair as a guideline for the rest of that section. Now if you are unsure or feel uneasy about that exercise, we suggest you refrain from any cutting at all. In the end you will spend more time removing your braids, but you won’t run the risk of chopping off your precious REAL hair.
For your convenience Braids By Franche does provide braids removal services.
